Bundles, Comps, and Multi-ticket Purchases

Sometimes you want to gang numerous tickets/registrations together for conveneince.

Bundles are groups of tickets that can all be added to the cart in one operation. The registrant is charged separately for all of them.

Comps are groups of tickets that can all be added to the cart, just like a bundle, except that they are added at no cost.

Multi-ticket registrations happen when a single registrant purchases multiple placements in an event. Normally a registrant can only buy a single placement in an activity. If they want to register another person, they have to start over with a whole new registrant, and then add them to the activity as well. Multi-ticket events allow the registrant to purchase multiple tickets to a single event, and put all those tickets under their own name. This is handy for certain types of events where you simply need a seat count, and not detailed tracking of each individual registrant.

Bundles and Comps

Bundles and comps are typically used to automatically select activities for a particular registration category.

In the main registration fee, the settings Include bundle and Include comp can be used to list the IDs of add-on activity fees. Those fees will be automatically added to the cart when the main registration fee is selected. Bundled fees will be added at their normal price, while comp fees will be added at no cost.

This is a registration convenience, and nothing more. It simplifies a multi-step registration process down to a single step, which reduces registration errors and other frustrations. However, the registrant is not obligated to accept those selections, and can delete them from the cart.

Because the activities are all added in one click, the registrant is not passed through any secondary registration forms. If there are any special registration questions (such as meal or dietary questions for a dinner), those questions should be included on the main fee registration form, instead.

You can include multiple tickets for activities by appending xN to the fee ID in the bundle or comp fee listing, where N is the number of tickets to include.

Example: Say a sponsorship registration category comes with 2 complimentary tickets to the conference banquet. Get the banquet fee ID (call it BBB), and then enter that into the Sponsor fee's Include comp setting, like so:

Include comp

BBBx2

You can include other comps as well, just separate them with a comma. You can also mix comps and bundles in the same fee.

In principle you can add not just activities, but other main registrants, as well. For instance, an Exhibitor registration could come with two complimentary delegates for the booth staff.  However, because the comps are added automatically, you do not collect any registration form info on the extra delegates, and this could potentially lead to confusing rosters and registration flows. Use with caution. A better approach might be to have a $0.00 Exhibitor staff registration fee that is only available to the Exhibitor registration, although that approach will involve substantially more clicks from the registrant.

Multi-ticket Registrations

In some cases you do not need to track individual registrant details; you only need a seat count. For example, it may be sufficient to know that the registrant is bringing one guest to the reception, or is bringing three family members on the bus tour. You do not need to know detailed information about each person.

To enable multiple ticket purchases in a fee, select the Allow multiple option in the fee configuration. After the registrant selects a ticket in the activity, the registration button will change to "Add another". The registrant can click that again to repeat the purchase, as many times as needed.

All tickets will go onto the roster in the main registrant's name.

To limit how many tickets can be purchased this way, use the Purchase limit setting.

Group Registrations

Group registrations are for cases where you need to register multiple people for a collective activity. For example:

  • a banquet table with 8 seats
  • a golf team with 4 players

Bundles and Comps can both be used to accomplish this. For example:

  • in the Banquet activity, create an individual fee, also called Banquet, and give it an individual price, say $150
  • in the main event, create a main fee called Banquet Table of 8, and give it a group price, say $1000
  • in the table of 8 fee, add an Include comp setting of NNNx8, where NNN is the ID of the individual banquet fee

Now when someone registers in the table of 8 fee for $1000, they will automatically also receive 8 individual Banquet registrations added to their cart at $0 each. Those 8 individual registrations will go under the table registrant's name. If you need to collect any dietary needs, those should go on the table of 8 fee's registration form.

Group registrations at varying rates

Sometimes you need to register multiple people for a single event, but at different rates. For example:

  • a dinner might have both adult and child (under-12) pricing
  • a professional event might have student discounts

You can use the Allow multiple option (noted above under Multi-ticket Registrations) to permit adding extra tickets at the same price point that the original registration was in.

Additionally, if there are any other Allow multiple fees in the same event, those will also be offered as add-ons.

So, to take the example of a dinner with family rates, you could set up your fees as follows:

  • in the dinner event, add an Adult fee, say $100
  • also add a Child (12 and under) fee, say $50
  • in both fees, set the Allow multiple option

This will allow the registrant to keep adding tickets in either fee, up to the Purchase limit that has been defined for the fee.
